You can create a Portals account with an email address and password, or connect your Google account in one step. Your session is saved automatically so you stay signed in across restarts. This page covers how to create your account, what you’ll see on first launch, and how to manage your profile.

Signing up

When you open Portals for the first time, you’ll see the startup screen with two sign-in options.

Open the startup screen

Launch Portals. You’ll see the branded startup screen with the Portals logo, the tagline “Creative dimensions at your fingertips”, and sign-in buttons.
On first launch, the startup screen includes an interactive tour with cards that introduce each mode — Brainstorming, Design, and Compose. Click through the cards before signing in to get a feel for what each mode does.

Choose your sign-in method

You have two options:Continue with Google Click Continue with Google to authenticate with your Google account. This completes in a single step and pulls in your name and avatar automatically.Sign up with Email Click Sign up with Email to open the email form. Enter your email address and choose a password, then click Create Account. If you already have an account, click Already have an account? Sign in to switch to sign-in mode.

Access your workspace

After signing in, Portals saves your session so you stay logged in across restarts. You’ll land directly in the workspace — the mode selector at the top lets you switch between Brainstorming, Design, and Compose.If you signed up with email, Portals may send a verification email depending on your environment. Check your inbox and follow the link if prompted.

The startup screen on first launch

The startup screen does more than just sign you in. On first launch in the desktop app it presents an interactive set of mode cards:
  • Inspiration Sweep — kick off a visual and video inspiration search
  • Deep Research — have the Portal Agent dig into any topic
  • Moodboard — run an images-only visual sweep
Clicking any card after signing in immediately routes you into the relevant mode and triggers the corresponding Portal Agent action. You can always return to the startup screen by switching modes.
The first time you open a blank canvas, Portals triggers an interactive tour notification. Follow the steps to learn the core gestures and how to invoke the Portal Agent. You can dismiss it and come back to it at any time.

Early access and beta tier

Portals is currently version 0.8.0-alpha, in early access. Here’s what that means for your account:

Free tier

Available to all signed-in users. Uses Pollinations AI for text and image generation — no API key needed.

Closed beta access

Some builds require a 6-digit invite code to unlock the full workspace. Enter it on the startup screen or join the waitlist.
During early access, Portals is under active development. You may encounter incomplete features, UI changes between updates, or occasional instability. Back up important work by exporting it regularly.

Profile settings

Your profile in Portals consists of the name and avatar pulled from your sign-in method:
  • Google sign-in — your Google display name and profile photo are used automatically
  • Email sign-in — your display name defaults to the part of your email address before the @ symbol
At this stage, profile editing is handled through your sign-in provider (Google account settings, or your email account). In-app profile editing will be available in a future release.

Signing out and switching accounts

To sign out, use the account menu in the workspace. Signing out clears your local session. The next time you open Portals, you’ll see the startup screen and can sign in with a different account if needed.
Your canvas work and workspace data are tied to your account. Signing in on another device with the same credentials gives you access to the same workspaces.
